With the heavenly blessings of Sant Baba Dlawar Singh ji, Brahm ji and with the benign endorsement of Chancellor Sant Baba Sarwan Singh ji, and under the able guidance of worthy Vice Chancellor, Professor (Dr.) Dharmjit Singh Parmar, a one day workshop on “Machine learning using python” was successfully organized by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, under the IQAC, IIC and UCA club. The goal of the workshop was to get participants up and running with Python in as short a time as possible. This workshop commenced with an aim to explore Python Programming right from installation, fundamentals to Machine Learning algorithms.
Around 125 participants comprising of Faculty and Students participated in this online workshop. The event started with an inaugural address by Prof. (Dr.) Dharmjit Singh Parmar, Vice- Chancellor, Sant Baba Bhag Singh University, Jalandhar.
Dr. Parmar extended his warm welcome to the participants and Resource Person of the Workshop. He thanked Mr. Rajeev Kumar Prashar, IT Head Manager, A2IT Pvt. Ltd along with his team member Ms. Anjali Rana for being the speaker of the day to guide the participants.
He also appreciated the efforts made by Department of Computer Science & Engineering to improve the quality of Higher Education through embedded use of Information Technology. He emphasized on the importance of Information Technology and its applications which enable the HEI’s to meet the current requirements of virtual learning during COVID 19 Pandemic and to maintain global standards in the field of higher education.
Sant Baba Bhag Singh University has been conferred with Excellence in Community service award in the year 2017, Best Infrastructure facility award in the year 2017 by confederation of education excellence. It has also received Excellence in Research and innovation award in the year 2019 by IFERP, Chennai, Excellence in Teaching and Learning Practices Award 2019, by IARDO, Goa. SBBSU IIC cell has received 4.5 stars for the year 2019-20 from Innovation Cell, Ministry of Education, Govt. of India.
He emphasized that the courses are so designed that one gets not only degree but skill certification too. Equipped with blend of outstanding faculty of international standards, Sant Baba Bhag Singh University is committed to ensure bright future of the learners. He said that the workshop is organized under aegis of IQAC and IIC cell of SBBSU and go from developing skills, to re-skill and then to up-skill. Dr. Parmar stressed on the need of improvement of quality education in HEIs with acceptable global standards while using both traditional methods of education as well as digital initiatives, “USE OF TECHNOLOGY”. Tomorrow’s learning is being showcased today. We all have the opportunity to prepare ourselves for tomorrow and be one of the change agents heading towards future.
Dr. Parmar, appealed to the entire faculty, nonteaching staff, students and other stake holders to work collectively to showcase University’s positive aspects in order to constantly improve.
Dr. Jagdeep Kaur, Coordinator of the department of Computer Science & Engineering and Dy. Dean UIET narrated the working of the department and informed that the department is making its rigorous efforts to boost the quality of teaching, research and learning in the University under the able leadership of the Vice Chancellor. She also emphasized on ensuring quality in education by being accountable and improving constantly through the use of technology. She stated that HEI’s should be innovative in developing curriculum and teaching as per the needs of their students with great emphasis on practical aspects, with an ultimate goal of making student employable. Further, she elaborated being a lifelong learner.
The resource person, Mr. Rajeev Kumar Prashar, started with basics of Deep Learning, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence with real world examples. He also demonstrated projects in python. Ms. Anjali Rana, core team member of A2IT, explained vast number of libraries in python that can be used in Data science, Machine learning and IOT. She explained best open-source python libraries for machine learning- NuPIC; Ramp; NumPy; Pipenv; TensorFlow.
As an outcome of the Workshop, students got familiar to python installation, coding in python, concepts of Artificial intelligence, data science and Machine learning. They also learnt how to prepare data, deal with missing data and create custom data analysis solutions for different industries.
The session concluded by a vote of thanks from Dr. Jagdeep Kaur. She expressed special gratitude to the resource person, for such an informative and useful presentation. She also expressed gratitude to the Vice Chancellor of the University and the management for their constant encouragement and support in conducting the Workshop. She also acknowledged the support of Director R&D, Dean UIET, Prof. (Dr.) Vijay Dhir. She gave special thanks to all Deans, Dy.
